Confirmed in 2020, the Night at the Museum musical is written by Shawn Levy and Bob Martin with music composed by Alan Menken. For the sake of brevity, the project is referred to as the NATMusical.
History
On 28 March 2020, Alan Menken appeared on an episode of Talk Back with Young Artists of America, where he confirmed he was working on the NATMusical, and it was "almost ready for a reading."[1] This was reported on by Broadway World.[2] On 16 September 2020, Bob Martin signed with Verve, in the process revealing his participation in writing the musical, and the affiliation of Kevin McCollum as producer.[3]
It would be over a year until anything new was confirmed, and on 11 December 2022, in the wake of KRA's release, Shawn Levy had an interview with Steve Weintraub of Collider confirming the NATMusical's completion.[4] He had the following to say:
"We have the script, we have the songs. [...] And as you can imagine, Night at the Museum is not the kind of small show that you can try out in a small town in Connecticut. It's a big installation piece of musical theater. So it is not five to 10 years away, but it's not a year away either. I'd say it's somewhere in between. But we're feeling really bullish about it because our workshop was really successful, and I think the material is feeling really good to the powers that be. So it becomes a matter of waiting for theater availability."[5][6]
